I know you guys miss me; sorry I’m damn busy lately. Dad’s image appears back recently, although he has long gone – emmh his blood is still inside me mahh!
I do remember in 1998 I guess, Dad call me up and ask me to fresh him up at Puduraya early morning (8 am if not mistaken), This unplan trip is due to his eagerness to see live telecast of UMNO AGM. Well after breakfast, we went to this PWTC for the so-called UMNO AGM day and as I can remember, this is before the Anwar Ibrahim being sacked from the cabinet.
When we arrived at PWTC, we walk thru the lobby and…saw thousand of people hanging around at this huge bazaar selling all sort of stuffs - junk food, souvenir, clothes..emmh just name it..everything is there.
While chatting with dad, I saw bunch of these UMNO goons’ with exclusive look and damn glamour, while another group dress like or look alike elite people or conman smoking expensive cigar and gold/diamond bangles on their hand. So many exclusive people showing off their petty rich and famous lifestyle, they love doing that irritating style in public & wanna people to recognize them I think. (Deep inside my mind - Uhhhuh! So many brainless rich clowns in KL huh?...….
Well back to Dad, his eagerness and passionate to see with his own eyes the so called national leader and state leader is almost unbearable. He really admires all sort of contribution being done by those leaders since the day of independent and keeps talking to me non stop! These leaders’ principles & their contribution to the nation.
We stop at the hotel lobby, and stared at paintings on the lobby’s wall, both of us walk thru and saw several more paintings i.e. Oil Paints on UMNO Presidents i.e. former and present, in full dress with Head Gear, Samping, Baju Melayu complete with keris (Traditional Malay Weapon used by the Head of State or Palace Warrior), I can’t remember who’s the painter…but the way it painted & quality is purely shittt!...I hate it..Opps sorry!
We didn’t enter the assembly hall, since it’s a huge crowd - so me & dad sitting at the lobby while looking at that huge TV showing live telecast outside the hall. Dad said he feels alright and proud for being one of the many that manage to attend this assembly. People cheering up when the so called candidate/or favorites took stage delivering their message to the audience. Sometimes they laughing when humor statements appears or any of the speaker making jokes. Some people chatting and talk big on projects and how their group or team know the ministers at state level or federal level, or they give upfront statement by showing off – they were this or that ministers team etc. So many teams and clans or group just name it.
For me personally, I feel weird – well not used in a big crowd and functions but since Dad is there, I need to accompany him anyway no matter how. After a while observing and looking at the peoples and surroundings, Dad look sad. I asked him a question, what it’s all about. He looks at my face and said this old Malay proverb “Menang Sorak Kampung Tergadai” – Till to date I remember his words! But as usual I could not be bothered with his statement maybe cause of lack understanding on what he means. The conversations with him just stop and he said he want to rest at my place.
After a while we went off for lunch and brought him to my apartment before he catch up his bus on that late evening on the same day.
4 months after, Dad pass away.
Morale of the story above:
A person who is decent, plain, clear and naïve i.e. wanna look at that personality whom he admired in the local scene, found out that his views on several leaders is not meeting his expectation and cannot believe what he sees…the right information might not flow to the public maybe only for certain groups or clans that close to the leaders.
The environment, people surrounding on that event day, their views, style & perception towards the nation!!! Fuuhh….horrible.
Leaders that taught the public on how to be rationale principle person, to have that great fighting spirit and love the country, always be a good person/citizen, sincere and passionate in giving things, be fair to others and contributes to the nation is not walk the talk. Dad feels sad when looking at the people around him didn’t get any beautiful values; understand the country needs and perhaps the genuine love and care on how to love the country. Everybody there is more or less looking for personal gains /influence/business/projects/subsidy/satisfaction/money etc. At the end of the day, not single values or information there for the people to bring home and teach their children or family on how to love their country.
Dad being a nationalist just feels bad by looking at the destruction of Malays politics and its community, disaster being done by their own leaders without realizing it. So, with that frustrated face, he walkthrough and keep silence on his feelings.
Personal View:
Menang Sorak Kampung Tergadai. (Too many people trying to show off their strength, pride or influence - yet they have nothing, no dignity and penniless) – At the end of the day, it just a loosing battle with full of POW surrendering the nation to other people who is more civilized to lead, rule and having that economic power.
It’s already happen anyway. huh!
